So what do you really need for your wedding? Here are some items you need or are optional. (Some of the links will take you to affiliate links where I receive a small commission on purchases). Table Numbers- Yes, you need them. Your guests need to know where to sit! Check here for table numbers. Yes, you need to do assigned seating. In my experience it is always a disaster if you do not assign guests to a certain table. Guest Book- Not necessary but it is fun to have special notes from your guests to read later. Check out traditional guest books and guest book alternatives. Cake Knife- If you are planning to cut a cake, then you need a knife. I recommend registering for one or borrowing one from a family member. I had a bride that used the same cake knife that had been used in her family for generations! It was really sweet and there was a card with the knife that had the couple and their wedding date that used it. You can also just order one from Amazon. Champagne Flutes- No, you do not need them. But if you receive a set as a gift, you should use it. If you are doing a champagne toast and do not have a set, ask your venue if they have them.

Phone guest books have been so popular this past year! It is such a fun way for guests to wish you a happy marriage. Check out Life on Record for their selection of phones. Here is how it works:
Life on Record has so many styles to choose from. This one comes in quite a few different colors. This one is my favorite! How fun would that be to use? The recordings are a fun alternative to a guest book that you can keep forever and it is not something that takes up space!
Planner tip: make sure you take the phone out of the box and understand how it works. If you do not have a Coordinator on the day of your wedding, be sure to designate someone to set it up, know how it works, and will box it up at the end of the night. Be sure to have clear instructions for the guests as well! Check out these fun, easy, and inexpensive guest book alternatives.

You need one or something for your guests to put cards in. When your guests arrive they want to get their card off their hands so they don't forget or so they do not have to hold onto it. So you want to make it visible when guests arrive at your reception. Having it visible also makes everyone feel at ease that no one is going to walk off with it in plain site. The size is important. If you are having a wedding around 100 guests or less, any of these card boxes will work. If you have a larger guest count you should consider getting something larger or designating someone to empty the box throughout the night. Ask your venue ahead of time for a safe place to store them. Make sure you establish a person to be "in charge" of the cards and to take them at the end of the night. A lot of families get nervous about the cards. (The images are clickable to Amazon links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.) But who says it has to be a box? You can use a basket or something you already have at home. You can use this as an opportunity to personalize your wedding. I had a couple that liked to fly fish together, so I got a fly fishing basket for their cards. I used a vintage suitcase for a globetrotting couple. You could use a vintage mailbox, a large lantern, a bird cage, or a barrel. It is an added bonus if it is something you can repurpose in your home after the wedding!
So get creative and find something fun. Or if you don't have time for that, just order a box from Amazon! Table numbers are a little detail that can be a big deal! My most important advice on table numbers is to see them in person ahead of time. Don't leave that Amazon box sealed up in the stack of wedding items that have taken over your home! Make sure that they are easy to read. I love the acrylic signs but many times, gold does not show up well on them. Opt for something like this with frosted glass. (The images are clickable to Amazon links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.) Pay attention to the size. You do not want a 2 inch table number that no one can see. But you do not want an 18 inch table number that takes over your centerpieces either! If you have a separate stand for your table number, be sure to try it out and make sure it can hold up the number. I have come across so many flimsy holders that cannot hold up a 5x7 card. They just topple over. If you hired a stationery designer, ask them to design table numbers that go with your invites! How about marquee table numbers? (if they go with your aesthetic of course)
I love candles! The more candles, the better. They are such an inexpensive way to set the mood. I have some do's and don'ts about candles for you. (The images are clickable to Amazon links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.) Do get candles that have the appropriate amount of hours. I always buy candles with at least 6 hours of burn time. Don't buy tea lights. They are useless. They will stay lit for an hour tops. Do make sure your candles are in something safe. They should be contained in a votive, hurricane, or some other glass. No one wants wax dripping all over the table. Don't get scented candles. Guests can be sensitive to smells. Do make sure you have someone to light all of the candles! If you hired a Wedding Coordinator then you are all set! If not, ask your venue or caterer if that is something they will do. You can always enlist a friend or family member that is not part of the bridal party. Make sure you have plenty of lighters ready to go. Don't waste your money on candles for outdoors unless you know that they will stay lit. I have re-lit sooo many candles that are a lost cause! If the candle is far enough down in a container that the wind will not effect it or if it is a covered area, then they might stay lit. You can opt for battery operated candles instead. Do opt for the most realistic battery operated candles if your venue does not allow real candles. Don't buy different color battery operated candles. You may have different size candles. Make sure you turn them on next to each other. You don't want some with white light and others with yellow light. Some even look orange. The colors clash and it does not look good!
